More Bang for Your Buck

A good inexpensive place for kids to shop is dollar stores. Whatever their name may be they generally have one thing in common, you can buy good stuff for only a dollar.

In our area they are called things like, Dollar Tree or Everything's A Dollar. Ask an adult to bring you to one once you've gotten your allowance.

If you have more than one dollar you can also buy a gift bag to put your gift in and a greeting card. If it's for a parent save a dollar and make your own greeting card. They are much more enjoyable.

Make Coupons

Paper or

Pen or Crayons or Markers

Cut your paper or note cards into reasonably sized pieces that you can write on and decorate.

Think of some things that the person you are giving them to might like. For example, for your mom you might make a coupon that says "Free Day Off". This means when she gives it to you that you will do the chores for the day and/or make meals depending on your age. Another example, for your dad you might make a coupon that says "I'll get it for you today!", which means that when he gives you the coupon you will get what he needs for that day (ie a glass of water, his slippers, etc.). You can also make coupons for a single job like "Dishes", which means you do the dishes once when you get the coupon. Be sure to make the tasks things that the person will like and that you are willing to do.

Now write out your coupon or coupons then, decorate. You can place them in an envelope and decorate it with a nice message.

The Simplest Gift

Sometimes the simplest gift you can give is your time. So, if it's mom's birthday you can clean the house or a room or you can just spend the day with her doing what she likes. If dad is the recipient you might try making his day go by more smoothly. How? Setup the bathroom cabinet with his toothbrush, a wash rag, dental floss, aftershave, razor, shaving cream, comb, etc. Add a little note or greeding card at the center of it all.

The same idea goes for your friends. Spend time with them or do something that makes their lives easier. You can clean your best friend's room with her, help her study for a big test, organize her cds, etc.

Showing you care by giving your time is the simplest gift of all.

Share Your Candy

So the person you are seeking a gift for has a sweet tooth? Buy some chocolate or their preferred candy, add a bow or ribbon.

Pick a flower from your yard or a friend's yard. Place it in the ribbon. You should now have candy and a flower with a ribbon around them as your gift.

You can also wrap the candy with newspaper if you prefer and simply give the flower with the wrapped candy.
