Cheap Father's Day Gift Ideas

When I was very young my mother used to buy dad's Father's Day gift for us. She would let us help to wrap it and try to scribble our names in the card. However, we had very little to do with picking it out.

There were no cutesy crafts from school or handmade cards because we weren't in school when Father's Day rolled around. As a kid you sort of live for the moment. So, if no one told me ahead of time, I wasn't prepared.

As a teenager I had a little money of my own. This sort of paved the way for a major discovery for me about my dad. He doesn't really like getting a bottle of cologne every year. In fact, I soon realized he had a secret stash of unused cologne collected over many holidays and many years.

I had to get creative. I started with thinking about what dad used that I could afford to buy him. I soon realized how very little my father needed. After all, he had a job and money. He also didn't buy very many things for himself.

I actually asked him one year what he'd like for Father's Day. He responded with the famous, "You don't have to get me anything." Through my dad I learned that moms aren't the only martyrs.

Over the years, I've come to know my father better. The one thing I have learned from him is that he DOES want something, not necessarily a gift. You see, the one thing all parents want most from their children is appreciation. That goes for Father's too.

There is no better way to show appreciation for your father than to actually put time and effort into creating a special gift just for him.

So, I've compiled a list of cheap Father's Day gift ideas for the whole family. These are gifts from the heart that show dad just how special he is.
