Baking Soda: Why It Should Be In Your Shopping Cart

There are so many cleaning products out there these days that you could waste a great deal of money trying to figure out what works best. Instead of spending a lot of money on many different products, why not try the ultimate multipurpose product, baking soda!

Baking soda is nontoxic and mildly abrasive. It has been around for ages and it's uses are numerous. Baking soda is not offensive to the pocketbook nor the senses. That's what makes baking soda a great buy for the thrifty consumer.

Try out some of these helpful household uses of baking soda and start saving money today!

  1. Deodorize while you clean your kitchen and bathroom surfaces. Just pour some baking soda on a damp sponge and your kitchen and bath will sparkle. Be sure to follow-up with a clean damp sponge.

  2. To keep your smile clean and bright brush with baking soda. Dip a wet toothbrush into a little baking soda, brush, and rinse.

  3. Keep baking soda handy to put out small grease or electrical fires.

  4. Deodorize your carpet. Sprinkle baking soda onto the carpet and let it sit for 10-15 minutes then vacuum.

  5. Baking soda helps to neutralize the odor of cat litter boxes. When changing the litter you can sprinkle some at the bottom of the pan then fill as usual. To further help with pet odor you can sprinkle baking soda on top of the litter.

  6. Having problems with stubborn odors in your clothes? When you wash add 1/2 cup of baking soda to the rinse cycle.

  7. Eliminate odors in your refrigerator and freezer. Remove the top flaps from two boxes of baking soda and place one in the refrigerator and one in the freezer. Be sure to set them against a wall or to the back so that they are not easily knocked over.

  8. Also, when cleaning your refrigerator and freezer you can use a solution of 3-4 tablespoons of baking soda to one quart of water. This will deodorize while you clean.

  9. Got heartburn? Baking soda is a good antacid. 1/2 teaspoon in a 4 ounce glass of water every two hours is all you need. Be sure that you allow the baking soda to completely dissolve before drinking.

  10. Soothe your achy feet. Fill a basin with warm water and add 3 tablespoons of baking soda to soothe and freshen your sore feet.
